CICS Startup and Shutdown

Q:

Can CICS/Log View collect messages during startup (DFHPLTPI) and shutdown (DFHPLTSD) processing?

A:

Include LOGBUPQ in DFHPLTPI AFTER the DFHDELIM statement, and in DFHPLTSD BEFORE the DFHDELIM statement.  Also note that SHUTDOWN(ENABLED) should be specified for the LOGx transactions to prevent looping.

Message DFHxxxx notification

Q:

How do I create a notify entry so that I can be told when a particular DFHxxxx message is generated?

A:

Enter the LOGU transaction and press the PF1 key for the setup instructions.

Message notification

Q:

Can CICS/Log View notify me if a particular message occurs?

A:

This is probably the least-well-known function of CICS/Log View.  You can create a "NOTIFY" setting that will take a particular action if a specific message is created.  Several options are available, including writing the message to the operating system console, sending a message to a terminal, or starting a transaction that would do whatever you want!

Transient Data queues supported

Q:

Which Transient Data queues are managed by CICS/Log View?

A:

There is a default set of TDQs that Log View will manage, but you have the option to include and exclude any others.

Viewing messages

Q:

How can I view the messages from just one or just a few TD queues instead of all of them?

A:

Enter LOGI to view the messages, press PF3 and enter any character next to the TDQ name(s) you want to view.
