XRAY V7.0 is now available for use in the following environments

  • VSE/ESA, z/VSE - CICS 1.7- 2.3, CICS TS 1.1
  • OS/390, z/OS - CICS 4.1, CICS TS 1.1 - 4.2

As well as consolidating fixes for all known problems, version 7.0 incorporates the following enhancements:

Cursor Selection

  • Many actions can now be performed by positioning the cursor on a screen field and pressing the enter key (click and enter for most session emulators or double click on some emulators).
  • The click and enter technique is in effect a replacement for the use of the ZOOM key which is now largely redundant and has been removed from some displays. The technique may be used on the batch connection display, source and link directories, link map to select a module for source display, halt lists (for change or delete), keep item lists (for delete), module exclusion list (for delete).
  • One important use of this technique is on the source display where positioning the cursor on a statement number and pressing enter will either set a halt point at that statement if none exists or turn of an existing halt point. Positioning the cursor over a variable name and pressing enter will display the current value in a data window.
  • Positioning the cursor over a command name in the PF key area and pressing enter causes the action associated with the command to be performed.


Pen Selection

  • For terminal sessions that support light pen selection, users can now opt to use this feature by setting the appropriate user preference (Use Pen Selection).
  • When pen selection is active, all displays that are in the format of a list - batch connection display, source and link directories, link map, halt displays, module exclusion display - will have any selectable lines set a pen detectable. For many emulators simply clicking on a line will result in a light pen attention interrupt and cause the system to select the appropriate source or link map for display or halt point or monitor control for change or deletion.
  • Also when pen selection is active, the PF key line at the bottom of the display will be replaces by one or two lines of selectable command fields such that clicking on one of these fields will cause the command to be executed.

Note: PF keys can still be used but the current assignments will not be displayed.

STEPOVER command

  • The STEPOVER command has now been associated with a key (or selectable command field if using pen selection) and has also been enhanced to ensure the next halt is after the current PERFORM by allowing for the fact that the return may be to the middle of a statement in some high level languages.


Window display

  • When a variable is displayed in a data window any subscript or reference modifier information associated with the variable is now converted to and displayed as a numeric value.
  • Group item display for Assembler programs
  • The group item display now supports the display of areas mapped by assembler dummy sections and also the display of constant values defined within assembler control sections.


Flow display

  • Each user can now control whether or not program flow information is collected for monitored programs by setting a number of options via User Preferences.
  • The flow data collection level can be set to none (no flow information required), source (data will only be collected for modules within the program for which source data exists) or full (data will be collected for all modules irrespective of whether source data exists.
  • The number of entries in the flow table can be individually set and amended to further control the amount of data collected.
  • The flow data display format can also set to basic, summary or detailed.
  • For basic display format, the statement numbers branched from and to will be displayed. This format is similar to that which existed in previous versions.
  • For summary display, a summary of the branches within the program will be displayed showing the source for the from and to statements and the count of statements executed between the branches.
  • For detailed display all statements in the execution path are displayed.
