Release 3.1 |
The sending of Internet-based SMTP
Email is now supported. An Email message can be created and
submitted in the same way a fax message is created. Because of
this change, the term "message" is used in most contexts in the
manual, screens, and help screens to include both fax and Email
messages. Note: The Windows-based release 3.0 CICS/Fax server
must be running the CICSMAIL program (separately installed from
the CICSFAXW program) in order for Email messages to be
delivered to an SMTP mail server. |
|
To better accommodate the creation of
Email messages, the release 2 "Directory" has been renamed to
"Fax Number/Email Address Directory" or just "Directory" for
short. The "Directory" now includes fields for the Email address
of the entry, as well as new fields for alternate fax numbers
and a "Company" field to allow for better identification of the
entry. If an entry has both a fax number and an Email address
supplied, the entry is displayed twice in the "Fax Number/Email
Address Directory" screen—one line for each. |
|
There is now an Installation option
which allows turning off the UCTRAN setting normally used on
3270 terminals. If mixed case is selected, the "From", "To", and
"Subject" values on the fax cover page and Email headers are
transmitted in the same case as entered. (Most other fields
within the product are also mixed case fields.) |
|
The user profiles used to define
CICS/Fax users now includes a field for the user’s (sender’s)
Email address, as well as a new field for a return fax number.
These fields, along with the former voice phone number, can be
included in cover page text using the "&VOICENUM", "&EMAIL", and
"&FAXNUM" special variables. |
|
Alternate fax numbers are now
supported at both the group level and in the "Directory". You
can choose to send an alternate fax to the same (probably local)
number by adding it to the group defaults, or you can specify an
alternate fax number for a directory. Alternate numbers are
retried if they do not complete the same number of times as
regular numbers. You can specify an alternate fax always be
sent, never be sent, or only be sent if the transmission to the
primary number failed all attempts. |
|
A new, faster method of delivering the
message data to the CICS/Fax server is implemented using a 3270
SCS printer terminal on CICS and new program FAXPXFR. Although
the former 3270 display terminal transfer (via HLLAPI) is still
supported (and still required to return messages to CICS), the
printer-based transfer MUST be used to take advantage of most
new message options |
|
Landscape orientation is now supported
by the Windows-based CICS/Fax server. |
|
"Wide" text (up to 132 characters) can
now be created using the FAXS transaction. |
|
Faxes can specify any available
Windows font be used for the message text (but not the cover
page). group option can be used to set the value for an entire
fax or to change the font within the fax. See Section 3.2.4
"Special Editing (Imbedded Text) Commands". |
|
A default forms overlay can be
specified for non-cover page fax pages, eliminating the need to
imbed the "+PCX" command at the first of each page which is to
include the overlay. |
|
Because of the increased number of
options now available, the less commonly used settings have been
moved off of the "Send a Fax or Email Message" screen
(transaction FAXS) and on to a new "Other Settings" screen
accessible from the FAXS screen via the PF4 key. |
|
You can specify a PC file accessible
by the CICS/Fax server be attached to either a fax or Email
message. If there is only one file to attach, a field on the new
"Settings" screen can be used. If multiple files are to be
attached, a new imbedded command "+ATTACH" can be used. See
Section 3.2.4 "Special Editing (Imbedded Text) Commands".. |
|
A new "Monitor" function is provided
to more quickly identify problems with the connection to or
operation of the CICS/Fax server. This is a CICS transaction (FAXM)
that, when enabled manually or via CICS PLT processing, wakes up
at an interval specified in the installation options and
performs various checks. See the "Monitor Cycle" parameter in
Section 2.3 for more information |
|
This version is the first year-2000

Fax 2.0 |
CICS/FAX release 2 users now have the
option of running multiple fax lines from a single server. There
is an additional charge for each line. For pricing information
or to place an order please contact your authorized MacKinney
Systems distributor. |
|
The amount of time required to
transfer a fax from CICS to the server has been decreased by
reducing some of the built-in delays used in release 1 to ensure
the screen was ready to be read or sent. |
|
There have also been changes to the
server software in release 2 to correct minor code and screen
problems. |
|
No additional programs or transactions
have been added in this release. No changes to CICS tables (PPT,
PCT, FCT) or CSD files are necessary to move from release 1 to
release 2 of CICS/FAX. |
