JES Report Broker monitors your JES queue. When JRB finds output which meets selection criteria, the output is delivered automatically.

How long does it take to install?

The basic installation for JES Report Broker including performing installation verification will take 2-3 hours or less.

How are reports selected from the JES queue?

The following criteria can be used in any combination:

  • Out Class

  • Destination ID

  • Form ID

  • User ID

  • Writer ID

  • Jobname

  • Job ID (range of Job ID's)

  • # of print lines (range of print lines)

  • Age of report in days

  • Age of report in hours

  • Stepname

  • DD name

What happens to the JES output after delivery?

One of the following:

  • Delete the report from JES.

  • Kept on JES (on HOLD).

  • Re-queue by changing any combination of the characteristics below.
       - Output class 
       - Destination ID
       - Form ID
       - Writer ID

Can the output be converted into a PDF document?

Yes any JES output can be converted into a PDF document.  It can then be delivered using any of the available methods.  (WWW,
EMAIL, FTP etc…) 

With JES Report Broker you have full control over the characteristics of the PDF document.

Can output be accessed via WWW?

Reports can be archived into JES Report Broker then accessed securely using a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape navigator. Use your browser to select reports via any combination of the following:

  • Output Class

  • Destination id

  • Writer id

  • Form id

  • DDname

  • Creation date range

  • Jobname

  • Job id

  • Notify Userid

  • Owning Userid 

  • Programmer name

  • Notify Node id

  • Room name

  • Procedure name

  • Step Name

  • Execution node

  • Entry node 

  • Output group id

Wildcards are supported. 

                                    

How can reports be delivered?

  • Web - Reports are archived into JES Report Broker and accessed from a web browser via the Web or your company's INTRA-net.

  • FTP - Provides full control of file name as well as optional creation of sub-directory.

  • E-Mail - Can be the body of email or an attachment. 

  • Offload the report to a local sequential dataset or GDG. 

  • Can be delivered back to JES. Usually this is used with the report splitting feature. With JES Report Broker you have full control over the output characteristics of the newly created output.

What can be done with a report accessed via a web browser?

  • Displayed in Adobe Acrobat

  • Download to your workstation

  • Print

  • Search

  • E-Mail

 

Is a web server necessary?

No, JES Report Broker has a fully secure web server as part of the product.

Can reports be E-Mailed to multiple recipients?

Yes,  mainframe report distributions can be up to a maximum of ten recipients. 

Can a report be segmented into sections and delivered separately?

Yes. A report can be split up using the text within the output.

Each section of the report can be delivered to a different location.

You can separately control the format and types of conversions of each section of the output.

Is carriage control supported?

Yes, ASA and machine carriage control is fully supported. Full FCB emulation is provided as well.

 How is transmission of reports secured?

FTP delivery and web browser access are fully protected using SSL (Secure Socket Layer).

 How is access via a browser secured?


The browser user must sign-on using a userid and a password. Use any of the following security methods:

  • Internal security

  • RACF

  • ACF/2 

  • Top/Secret

SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is also used to provide complete security.

Mainframe report distributions are archived into "report groups", a user id must be authorized to access a group. 
After an installation specified length of browser inactivity the sign-in is canceled. This protects against someone else using your sign-on if you leave your workstation.

 Can multiple reports be delivered at the same time?

 

Yes. Configure JES Report Broker to deliver as many reports concurrently as needed.

 Is a batch utility provided to back up and restore archived reports?

Yes, within JES Report Broker the utility provides the following functions:

  • BACKUP to history

  • RESTORE from history

  • Automatic maintenance - automatically backs up and purges reports based on age

  • Purge history

  • Purge history by backup dataset name

  • Purge history by backup volume id

TYPES OF DELIVERY

  • NEW! You can now choose if a report will be delivered in ASCII or EBCDIC.

  • NEW! Can now specify the FTP port to be used. 

  • NEW! JES - Reports can now be delivered back to the JES spool. 
    You can control all the characteristics of the new report created. Usually this feature is used in conjunction with the report splitting features of the product.

REPORTS CAN BE SPLIT UP

  • NEW! Each report 'segment' can now be delivered to a different location will separate control over formatting and conversion.

  • NEW! New controls over report segmentation boundaries have been added. Also we have removed the requirement that segments must be defined in the order they appear in the report.
