JES Queue for Printers

JES Queue for Printers delivers reports from the JES output queue to TCP/IP or VTAM printers. JQP delivers output directly to the TCP/IP printer or a Line Printer Daemon (LPD). The LCDS feature provides support for Xerox's DocuPrint or DocuTech devices over TCP/IP eliminating SNA hardware. Replace costly BUS/TAG printer hardware using your existing TCP/IP printer network. JES Queue for Printers will interface with Solimar Systems, Barr Systems, Rochester Software Associates and Xerox. No JES definitions or changes are required. Option to support the Rijndael encryption algorithm, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is available.

JES Queue for Printers uses the information from the ROUTE PRINT, OUTPUT or DD statements to determine the reports' destination. Every CICS printer in your shop can now be used as a destination for output from batch jobs. Likewise, 3270-enabled PC printers defined to VTAM and printers defined to the TCP/IP network are available for batch output.

Product details

JES Queue for Printers (JQP) will print any report from the JES output queue to printers defined to VTAM and TCP/IP printers.

  • VTAM printer types supported are SNA, NON-SNA and SCS.

  • Supports TCP/IP printers using the RFC 1179 Line Printer Daemon (LPD) protocol or if supported by the network printer adapter, "direct" socket connection.

  • Reports in the JES output queue are automatically selected based on their DESTID and printed to the printer defined for that destination.

  • Both machine code and ASA control characters are supported.

  • FCB emulation is supported using the FCB images from the SYS1.IMAGELIB library.

  • A standard separator page is available and an exit is provided for customizing the separator page.

  • Printers may be started or stopped as necessary and reports may be halted and then restarted from the last page printed or any line within the report.

  • Forms mounting is supported. Reports will not print unless the FORM of the report matches the current printer’s FORM.

  • Commands are available to display the status of reports currently printing or waiting to be printed. Commands are also available to manipulate both printers and reports.

  • Security is provided to prevent users from accessing reports and printers.

  • When multiple reports are to be printed on the same printer, the report’s priority determines which report will be printed first. This allows for "HOT" reports to be printed first. Each printer defined has a specified maximum number of lines allowed to prevent reports which exceed this number from printing on the printer.

  • Printer translation tables are available to convert certain hexadecimal characters in the report to prevent hardware errors.

  • Reports are directed to a destination name (which may or may not have the same name as the printer). This allows the physical printer to have different options (separator pages, page eject options, line width, maximum number of lines, and translate table) based on the destination name.

"While upgrading to a new IBM 2066-001 mainframe, Pekin Insurance wanted to also modernize the connectivity configuration of their Solimar Print/Director system by changing the communication protocol from BUS/TAG to TCP/IP. In order to maintain data integrity using TCP/IP transfer, Pekin selected JES Queue for Printers (JQP) from MacKinney Systems. JES Queue for Printers transfers reports directly from the Pekin's mainframe JES queue to Solimar Print/Director and is able to append header information to each job and maintain proper carriage control codes for each print line. In addition to facilitating TCP/IP connectivity, JES Queue for Printers enabled Pekin to realize faster transfer rates and increased throughput compared to the previously configured BUS/TAG connection."

"JES Queue for Printers addressed an immediate need to route print from JES2 to IP attached printers and saved over $100,000 in alternative hardware or software solutions. The trial and implementation of JQP was successful due to the quality support received from the Technical support staff at MacKinney Systems."

"The MacKinney staff is quick to answer any questions I have with JES Queue for Printers (or any other MacKinney product for that matter). They work fast to diagnose and solve problems."

 • Michael J. Giglio, Tech Support Analyst, El Paso Electric •

"We are migrating from a VSE environment to OS/390. We use the capabilities of the VSE TCP/IP to print to network printers. We use another product to print to our VTAM Printers. JES Queue for Printers solved the problem of printing to both Network TCP/IP and VTAM printers. It was straight forward to install and implement. I had it up and running in approximately 4 hours. There were no changes to the MVS or JES2 environment.

Adding a DEST to a /*Route or //OUTPUT was all that was necessary to begin printing to the JQP printers.

The dynamic capabilities make it very flexible for adding/changing printers. As with any MacKinney product, it was very cost effective."
